Three Rounds and a Sound

A non-clay post. Posting just because my heart couldn't resist. This song and this band have my soul.
I still can't figure out the meaning or story behind the song title, being Chinese and all.

Greenware in 24 hours

I've been walking on cloud in the past 2 days. Friday, with studio key in hand, I raced to the studio and met up with my clay buddy from 5pm to 11:30pm. No dinner and we barely talked. We were immersed in clay. Throwing, trimming and pulling handles non stop. It was a blast. I didn't really want to leave but my friend was exhausted from sanding.

With pots almost dry enough for trimming, we returned today. I especially went to the market to buy pink Lily to scent up the studio. And it is my subtle way of saying "hey, I like you". Not sure the message will convey but I feel good about buying the flowers, putting them in his vase and leaving him with a thank you note.

These 3 mugs were thrown, trimmed and handled within 24 hrs . A record first for me. It just proves how awesome it is to have a studio.

I'm sure my friends at Mud Colony are not as crazy as I am.

I love this pot

I love, love and love it.
I love holding it in my hands, feeling the texture, the bumps and the sharp edges.

Underglaze and Slip

I threw a cylinder about 6" tall (the tallest I've even thrown...yeppi!!!!) and pushed it outward to form a bowl shape.

I then blow-dried the pot until the surface is non-shiny and applied a layer of blue underglaze. Again, this layer needs to be blow-dried.

The final layer is this chocolaty black slip.

When it is leather hard, I will sand it off to reveal the under layers. Hopefully the blue will peek through and the black slip is truly black.

Drawing on Clay

I'm winding down with drawing this morning after ping-pong. Drinking black coffee and drawing on my sanded to death pots in a quiet morning seems like paradise.

First there were trees................

then......came the sweet flowers.........

hum........what do you want to be next?

Whatever you want to be............don't forget to drop by Mud Colony for a peek at the Potterland
